Feels like starting over ...

It’s amazing how refreshing a week without the Internet can be. But it’s also amazing how “far behind” I felt as soon as I walked in the door last night.

Already, I have to meet with some out-of-towners at 10 a.m. today to give them a tour of the county. This couple from Nebraska and their three children are interested in moving to Grant County. They got a hold of me through a mutual acquaintance and called yesterday as we were packing up to leave Santa Rosa, New Mexico, where the girls and I spent the night on our way home from Apache Junction, Arizona, where my mom lives.

My man, the birthday boy

I woke up with the birthday boy this morning. Jeromy is 38 today. He is not excited about turning 38; he says it’s as good as turning 40.

I never know what to buy him for his birthday – or any other holiday, so I normally let him write the menu. He always makes it easy.

Enid announces largest public education donation in state history

Enid, OK – The largest monetary gift to an Oklahoma school district was announced this week in Enid.

Nine businesses and individuals contributed $3.4 million to Enid Public Schools to assist with capital improvement needs. The funds will be coupled with a $99 million bond issue recently approved by Enid voters. The private donation is the largest ever contributed to an Oklahoma kindergarten to 12th-grade school system.

What is your question?

Legislative Forum - 9 a.m. Friday, March 12, Medford Community Room. Speak with Sen. David Myers and Rep. Dale Dewitt.

If you plan to attend, what will you ask?

If you can't attend, what would you like to ask?

If you just won't attend, why not?

Counting down to mission trip

My one day of volunteering to answer phones at The House has turned into four glorious days of watching God work. I was asked back to the station when the annual pledge drive was held over for a few days. Today will be my last day to volunteer, though, because I must spend tomorrow packing for our youth group mission trip to Arizona. Hopefully, the pledge drive will wrap up today as well. The station is so very close to its goal, and I know God sees the work of the ministry there and will bless The House with faithful supporters.

To form or not to form?

Tulsa County's assessor says he shouldn't be required to fill out a form to obtain the audio tape of a meeting of a public body to which he belongs, the Tulsa World reported Monday.

His complaint raises the larger question of whether government agencies in Oklahoma may require such forms to be filled out to request records. And if so, what information can be required of the requester?

For the answers visit FOI Oklahoma.

Coach proud of players accused of newspaper theft

By JEFF CARLTON, Associated Press Writer

AS (AP)—A college football coach in Texas is backing players accused of removing every copy of a student newspaper from racks around campus because of a front-page article about teammates being arrested on drug charges, according to a police report.

Contract Awarded for Repairs to Bridge and Approaches in Grant County

A contract was awarded recently for repairs to bridge and approaches in Grant County, Sen. David Myers and Rep. Dale DeWitt recently announced.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, the project involves repairing a bridge and approaches along County Road (EW-11) over Pond Creek 3 miles North of SH-11 and 5 miles East of SH-11A.

Sen. Myers, (R-Ponca City) said the State Transportation Commission awarded a $421,227.65 contract on the project to K & R Builders, Inc. The Wheatland company was the lowest of seven bidders for the job, said Rep. DeWitt, (R-Braman).

Once construction begins, the project is estimated to be completed within four months.

A program you shouldn't miss! Gubernatorial candidates all in one room!

I cannot attend because I will be in Arizona, but here's your chance to ask, learn and know:

Oklahoma Sunshine ’10: Privacy, Politicians & the Public's Need to Know will be held March 13 at The Oklahoman, 9000 N. Broadway, Oklahoma City.

If you want to see events such as this continue, please attend this conference and encourage others to do so as well.

Children's Moment

What is your favorite kind of fruit? I like bananas. They are probably my favorite fruit.

When I was little, we had lots of fruit trees in our back yard. My parents grew green apples, apricots and cherries. We had a big cherry tree in the back yard, and every year, right around my birthday, the cherries would be ripe and ready to pick.

How The House lives at our house

“O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.” - Psalm 51:15

During youth group Sunday, we talked about the spiritual gifts afforded to us and outlined in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10.

One of those gifts is prophecy. Most of the kids agreed the gift of prophecy exists … just maybe not in Medford. It was quite a conversation.

I was the judge of that

Just finished judging entries for the North Dakota Newspaper Association. The categories sent to me were government reporting series, reporting series and feature reporting. The features category covered my dining room table. With 25 entries, most having the allowed three-story maximum, I read nearly 75 stories all together! Yes, I am nearly blind.
