Coconut milk and coriander: the spices of life

Writing this week has been a battle.

“No, no one would want to read about that,” I keep telling myself. Every idea is shot down by my own conscience. Nothing has been worthy of recording.

I have contradicted my own motto: we can write about anything.

Three heroines and a dinosaur scared poopless

I have been blessed with children who like to write and create.

Joseph will not admit to being a “writer,” but the lyrics to some of the songs he helps create never cease to amaze me.

Faster than you can say Ginkgo Biloba ...

Just got this e-mail. I'm sure it will circle the earth faster than any of us can say Ginkgo Biloba, but I had to share. Funny stuff. Even the junk at the end was worth sharing. lol.

Did Jacobellis deserve this?!?!

Tacky. Tacky. Tacky. I just finished reading this story about Lindsey Jacobellis, the U.S. snowboarder who was expected to be a contender for this year’s gold medal.

She got a little cocky in the 2006 games: when nearing the finish line, she grabbed her board in an attempt to prematurely brag on her first-place finish and wound up biting the dust instead of grabbing the gold.

Open meetings are 'open' for a reason

Today is a professional day at school. I found the girls snuggled up on the fold-out couch this morning watching the Smurfs.

Justine is sniffling and sneezing. Jaynee is burning up. I’ve been serving Tylenol cocktails every four to six hours.

Happy anniversary, Jeromy with an O!

Today is our wedding anniversary. Jeromy and I have been married four whole years. It seems a lot longer than that. Both of us have trouble keep track of how long we’ve been married because it feels like we’ve known each other forever.

We met at Spirits in Ponca City. Spirits is a dark and smoky hotel bar on 14th Street.

More to 'the media' than meets the eye

I slept until almost noon today. I can’t seem to shake my “hangover” lingering from the weekend.

I got up with the kids at 7 a.m., and as soon as they were out the door, I crawled back into bed and didn’t move until 11:30 a.m.

It feels like I’ve got a little fire going on in my belly. Plus, I’ve got that permanent watery, metally taste in my mouth that shows up every time I move a muscle. Bleck!

Show me the Pepto

I got up early this morning to enjoy some quiet time before everyone else woke up, and at 6:40 a.m., Justine came wandering into the office. Jeromy snored all night. I’m ready to be back in my hotel room.

Can't top that!

I had the most FANTASTIC weekend!

Accepting four awards at the Oklahoma Press Association Mid-Winter Convention was awesome, but it wasn’t even the best part of the weekend.

Quick read, quick write

I woke up at 4 a.m. to read and exercise before heading to Edmond. I don’t have much time to write this morning, but here are a couple scriptures that stood out to me in my readings this morning:

'Daddy got a new job!'

Yesterday’s trip to Norman proved informative. I found out OU’s massive journalism program – centered in a state-of-the-art facility built by the trust of and named for Oklahoma’s Edward Gaylord, family publisher of The Oklahoman – has no online courses.

What?

A week brimming with fun

Busy day today. Groundhog Day! (Not that that has anything to do with my day.) I’m headed to Norman to tour the Gaylord College of Journalism and speak with an advisor about master’s program options. I haven’t officially chosen OU, but I want to explore all my options.

Yesterday, I tried a new “routine” of getting up at 6 a.m. and getting some things done before the world wakes up. I loved it! Of course, I was ready to go to bed by 3 p.m., but I really did enjoy my day. I am not a morning person, so I’m not sure how long it will last.
